KIDS FROM THE TENNESSEE SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND EXPERIENCED A SENSORY ADVENTURE AT CAVALIA ODYSSEO

SEPTEMBER 22, 2017

Yesterday, a group of children from the Tennessee School for the Blind had a rare opportunity to experience an amazing and moving adventure at Cavalia Odysseo. The children, who rely heavily on their other senses to fully understand the world, were guided by our Odysseo artists through a sensory journey created specifically to meet their special needs.

The group discovered Odysseo’s equestrian and acrobatic world through a variety of hands-on exercises. Members of our cast allowed the youth to touch our horse’s soft coats, brush and groom them. They smelled and touched the horses’ food; felt and tried the saddles; and listened to the horses’ heartbeat and breathing with stethoscopes. The young guests also played percussion with our musicians and danced with our acrobats. At the end of the tour, our riders brought their horses to a full cantering speed, allowing the children to feel the ground quake beneath the incredible power of the equine stars.

The mission of the staff at the Tennessee School for the Blind is to provide free, appropriate, and individualized educational services to eligible students in a safe environment that will promote independence and a positive self-image, as well as provide information and technical assistance to families, schools, and agencies serving all Tennessee children who are visually challenged.

Cavalia Odysseo – featuring 65 horses and 50 artists, is playing under the White Big Top near Opryland in Nashville with matinee and evening performances scheduled through October 8.
