HORSE ARRIVAL IN IRVINE
ORANGE COUNTY VETERANS CONNECT WITH ODYSSEO’S 65 EQUINE STARS AS THEY ARRIVE IN IRVINE. World’s largest touring production set to open November 16
ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (Thursday, November 10, 2016) #OdysseoOC – The four-legged stars of Odysseo, the world’s largest touring production set to open November 16 in Irvine, had a warm and special welcome when they arrived on the show site Thursday from their vacation at a lush San Diego County farm. To thank and honor our nation’s men and women who served our country, Odysseo invited some 30 veterans from the Equine Coaching Veterans Program of Hanaeleh Non-Profit Horse Rescue & Advocacy to meet with the horses on the eve of Veteran Day.
Back in Orange County for the holiday season by popular demand under the White Big Top at the junction of the I-405 & the SR-133, Odysseo sees riders, acrobats, dancers, musicians and horses explore some of the world’s greatest landscapes as they celebrate the magical human-horse bond throughout history. That bond was clear Thursday as the vets, guided by Odysseo riders and grooms, helped unload the horses from the last of the 110 semi-trailer trucks required to migrate the $30-million theatrical production, then led them down a red carpet to their spacious stables adjacent to the show tent.
These special guests were then treated to a liberty demonstration, in which trainers guide the horses in patterns with only their murmurs and body language. The meet & greet event ended with a chance for the vets to linger and further enjoy their connection with the horses during a behind-the-scenes tour of the stables, where the show’s 65 four-legged stars enjoy extraordinary care.
The 20-person stables team, comprising a farrier, health technicians, trainers and grooms, ensures unequalled, first-class care for the heart and soul of the production both during transport and inside the large, climate-controlled stables tent. To ensure comfort and ease from city to city, the horses keep the same neighbors around their stable boxes, which are spacious enough for them to lie down, roll and relax.
The Odysseo horse-training philosophy is centered on patience, communication and observation to tailor performance demands and care to each horse’s talents and needs. Training, care and, therefore, the entire show, are characterized by kindness, trust and mutual respect. Each horse performs for about 12 minutes per show. The rest of their daily routine includes warm-up, free time, and no shortage of pampering: showers, grooming, workshops with their riders, and outings to the paddocks where they roam and play.
