Tickets now on sale!
Montreal (Thursday, May 3 2018) @Cavalia #Odysseo –Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante and Cavalia Founder Normand Latourelle gathered today at the Cavalia head office to announce that Odysseo will make its return to Montréal starting July 25. Sure to be Montreal’s top event this summer, Odysseo will raise its White Big Top – the world’s largest big-top tent – at the entrance of the Jacques Cartier Bridge, on Sainte Catherine Street East at the corner of De Lorimier Avenue. It will be the first time Cavalia sets up downtown, at an exceptional location that is at the heart of the city’s renowned summer festivities. With public transit and a bridge nearby, travelling to and from the show site will be a breeze. “I am very happy to learn that Odysseo’s is making its return to Montreal, in a neighborhood that is booming and full of potential. Cavalia is a great example of the international reach of Montreal’s culture,” declared Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante.
Jewel of Quebec’s cultural industry, Cavalia is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. Since 2003, its shows Cavalia and Odysseo have enjoyed international success, mesmerizing more than 8 million spectators worldwide. Since its creation in Montreal in 2011, Odysseo has captivated close to 3 million people in some 33 destinations in North America, including more than 300,000 rapt spectators in the Los Angeles area alone.
For Cavalia Founder Normand Latourelle, returning to Montreal was a no brainer: “We can imagine no better place than Quebec to celebrate our 15th anniversary in front of our Montreal and Quebec fans. We have some surprises in store!”
The Montreal run of Odysseo will include new additions to the show and will bring back artists who have marked its evolution over the years. Among them are two performers featured in the first show, Cavalia, now performing for the first time in Odysseo: singer Pamela Boyer (La Voix 2018), and Sylvia Zerbini, who will present a breathtaking act featuring a dozen Arabian horses at liberty in an elegant and touching scene that exemplifies the power and lyrical beauty of Odysseo.
Simply put, Odysseo is the largest, most technologically advanced show on the planet. It combines the best of the equestrian arts with world-class acrobatics and stagecraft to create an unprecedented theatrical experience that has completely redefined live entertainment throughout the world.
Surrounded by many of the project’s partners, Mr. Latourelle announced Wednesday that tickets are now on sale for the Montreal run. TELUS, presenting sponsor, was represented by François Gratton, Executive Vice-President, TELUS and Partner Solutions and President, Business Solutions East and TELUS Québec.
“On behalf of our 3,200 TELUS team members here in Montreal, I wish Cavalia a fantastic homecoming,” said Mr. Gratton. “As Odysseo’s principal sponsor, we are very pleased to help put Montreal-based talent in the spotlight. With this return, Cavalia is providing Montrealers big and small, as well as our beautiful city’s many tourists, a chance to experience up close the genius and innovative spirit for which Montreal is known around the world. Like so many Montrealers, the members of our TELUS team and I can hardly wait to be transported into the Odysseo universe and applaud Cavalia’s artisans here at home!”
Pierre Bellerose, Vice President, Public Relations, Hospitality, Research and Product Development at Tourisme Montréal, said he is “delighted to see such a large-scale show set up for the first time in this fantastic location, in the heart of Montreal. It offers tourists a unique opportunity to discover a Quebec production of international renown.”
Also on hand was Pierre Bruneau, from the Fondation Charles-Bruneau. The Foundation’s mission is to improve the fortune of children with cancer by financing research and supporting project development in pediatric hematology and oncology. Cavalia’s involvement with the Fondation Charles-Bruneau continues its longstanding support of children’s health.
“We are proud and above all very grateful for this collaboration,” said Mr. Bruneau. “Our latest research projects are ambitious. The support of major companies like Cavalia allows us to stay on track and get closer to our dream of healing all children.”
This partnership is but one example of the many ways Cavalia gets involved in the community where it performs. Complimentary tickets will also be offered to various charity organizations, most of which are located in the East of Montreal, including in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
Also present was Mr. René Binette, President of the Executive committee of Voies Culturelles des Faubourgs, an organization dedicated to building consensus, raising awareness, and coordination and cultural intervention in all its forms in Montreal’s Faubourgs district. “This dynamic and culturally flourishing neighborhood will host this tremendous production, and Voies culturelles is delighted to know that local organizations will have the opportunity to see this internationally renowned show,” said Mr. Binette.
Odysseo has received critical acclaim from media everywhere it tours. The San Francisco Chronicle wrote that Odysseo is “an enthralling equestrian epic and about as gorgeous as it gets!” FOX and NBC called it “a must-see masterpiece” and “a performance of epic proportion – absolutely amazing!” CNN said it is “real Hollywood magic…on stage!” while ABC states “Odysseo is like nothing ever seen before.” For Entertainment Tonight, the show is “a mix of jaw-dropping acrobatics, equestrian choreography and stunning visual effects – it’s a truly magical experience.” Lastly, the Salt Lake Tribune and The Tennessean wrote Odysseo is “a dazzling production, breathtaking beauty!” and “majestic and mesmerizing”.
The company’s original show, Cavalia, which was enjoyed equally glowing reviews, has touched over 5 million spectators in 72 destinations around the world in North America, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Asia. It is now playing in Nanjing, the capital of the Chinese province of Jiangsu.
